I love sports so much and I try to make time for it. There are many different kind of sports that I enjoy, but my favorite is football (called soccer in some countries). Almost everyone knows the game of football and how it is played, am not going into that. My main concern for writing this story is that this beautiful game that normally unities fans from various places is steadily becoming a source of division in many places because of racism usually against black players. I am writing this because am worried with the frequent cases of abuse of players because of their skin color or nationality.
In some places, racism is subtly institutionalized. Some football clubs usually find it difficult to sign players of color. Am not going to question that. My main worry is the silence or inaction that follows cases of abuse of black players by fans. I believe we should have grown up to recognize and differentiate people from animals. We should not treat others in a degrading manner simply because we consider our race superior. As far ass am concerned, there is just one race - the human race. We all appreciate that variety is the spice of life in other things like fruits. But when we see the variety in human appearance and color, we tend to reject it. I believe its time to stand up to racism in sports especially football.
The authorities should take concrete action to stop of discourage the abuse of football players of color. There should be more action than just talks and conferences. Significant punishment should be given to anyone that makes monkey noises on black players. Football clubs should run orientation courses for fans to educate them on rules of proper behavior. Proper rules of conduct regarding racism should be laid down and explained to fans and defaulters should be properly punished. We must recognize that humans are all equal before the eyes of God (if you believe in God). Regardless of our color, we should dignify the human person.
Racism also exists in other areas of life such as education and business. No matter where you find yourself, stand against racism. See the differences in human appearances as varieties that exist to spice up life - just as we acknowledge the beauty of apples of different colors and shapes. We should judge people not based on their color but on the content of their character.
SAY NO TO RACISM IN FOOTBALL - and in life as a whole. Remember, there is just one race - the human race. I believe am correct in the above assertions.
