Introduction

Making a mistake is part of the human nature and everyone of us have made mistakes. It feels bad to make a mistake but it terribly hurts to repeat your mistakes - same old mistakes. You seem to be kidding around rather than growing up when you do the same things that brought you misery in the past. However, with the right efforts and proper motivation, you can overcome your old challenges. So how can you avoid repeating those mistakes and - you guessed it - grow up? In at least 3 ways! Check it out!

1. Acknowledge your mistakes and take note of them: This is usually the first step towards recovery. If you need to sit back and try to discover your mistake. Try to know what the right course of action should have been. To assist you not to forget, you can have a small not where you put down the mistakes and what should have been the proper course to take. When your mistakes are very obvious to you, it becomes easier to keep track of them and work towards avoiding them.

2. Start working on your mistakes: Having acknowledged and noted your mistakes, you have to start working on them. Write down the proper course of action for your mistakes and steps you should have take to avoid the mistake. Try to have it clearly on your mind what to do when the situation repeats again in the future. For example, did you miss an an important appointment because you where trapped in traffic? Next time, leave very early and give yourself enough time to get there, considering traffic conditions. When you note down your mistakes and the proper action to take, you review them from time to time. That way, it stays fresh on your mind and you are more likely to do the right thing next time.

3. Never fear relapses: Now you have written down your mistakes and you have made some progress in correcting them. But in the midst of progress, you once went back to your old habit. You feel like a failure! Do not worry, you have not failed. In fact, relapse does not mean you have not made any progress. It simply reminds you that overcoming your old mistakes completely would take time, dedication and hard work. But these are things you can do. To illustrate it, if you are climbing a staircase and you stepped back just one foot, it does not mean that you start back from the ground to climb. You move on from where you are. So it is with mistakes. When there is a relapse - which almost always occurs - do not worry. Continue from the progress already made and you will get over old mistakes sooner than later.

Remember that correcting old habits take time. Do not rush. Take your time and work on them. Put a plan in place and stick to it. When you relapse, dot worry. Move on. Mistakes are there to be made, but you can correct them too, feel happy and em..... GROW UP!
