Major part of establishing a homestead is lots of manual work. As I think about what I've accomplished so far today, and the lengthy to-do list before me, I have to ask myself: do I really have time to spend on blogging??
It's not yet 8am. I've already washed and hung a load of laundry, made up beds, cleaned the floor, prepared breakfast, did the dishes, let the chickens out, replenished chickens' food and water, put a cake in the oven, posted one blog post and gave the farmdogs their morning dose of head scratchies (head scratchies are very important for daily doggo maintenance).

The answer isn't a straightforward 'yes' or 'no'. It's all about priorities, I guess, but whose priorities? Am I being true to my vision if I "waste" time sitting at a computer, typing, while my chores await me?
The truth is, we chose an unconventional lifestyle which comes with a lot of challenges and a tremendous amount of hard work. In order to stay motivated, those little daily doses of encouragement - in the form of other blog content, comments, upvotes - helps me keep that goal in mind. Seeing others' progress, and learning from other bloggers who are embarking on a similar journey, allows us to apply ideas and solutions to problems we face.
Maintaining a public blog also keeps us accountable! Announcing our plans to the world means we have additional motivation to work towards those goals. They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. That's all we're doing - we're walking the journey. It's not a sprint, but a marathon. One step at a time.
