Welcome to my blog! Its another wonderful day and I would love to share this experience with parents who have children in day care centers / creche.
Mrs. Ade had just returned from work after a hectic day's job. She quickly entered the house without glancing at the children, undressed and went ahead to prepare meals for the children. While in the kitchen she realised that her youngest son who always loved to tag along with her whenever she was around wasn't by her side. "Where could this boy be?", she asked herself as she made her way to the sitting room to ask her sister.
"Where is Frank?", she asked her sister who was sitting on the couch engrossed in the movie she was watching.
"Sister, he is sleeping in their room", she replied.
"When did he sleep?", she asked out of curiousity, because she had noticed same occurence for the last few days.
"Since he returned from school, ma"
"This is strange. Frank is a lively boy and when he sleeps like this, it might be a signal that something is wrong"
First thing the next day, Mrs. Ade took her son to the hospital to check out what was wrong with him. On getting there, they were booked to see the doctor in no time.
When she entered the doctor's office, the doctor wanted to know what has been happening to the boy in order to analyse the situation properly.
"Mrs. Ade, when did you notice this symptom?", the doctor asked, writing on the patient card.
"That should be four days now", she answered.
"Did you notice any other symptoms?", the doctor asked.
"No", just the excessive sleeping.
The doctor carried out some tests and when the results came out, told Mrs. Ade that her son may have been drugged. She knew immediately it must be his school, because her sister can't do such a thing. Mrs. Ade was livid with anger. She thanked the doctor, paid her bills and stormed out of the hospital, but not after receiving some advice from the doctor.
She went straight to her son's school, and after much argument, streams of abuse from Mrs. Ade to the proprietress of the school, and threat to report to appropriate authorities, the son's teacher confessed of giving the children sleeping pills to enable her rest during work hours. Unfortunately for her, the effect of the drug only kicked in moments before school closure for Frank and this led to the exposure.
The school pleaded with her not to report them to the authorities, that the matter will be handled appropriately. The teacher was sacked from work and a stern warning given to the remaining teachers and staff of the school.
Mrs. Ade was able to notice this ugly trend and stopped it in the nick of time. Some children weren't so lucky. Parents should be at alert and monitor their children in school especially in creche or day care centre closely.
I hope you learnt one or two things from this post.
