Ada got to the door in no time. As she placed her hand on the door knob and tried to turn it, she heard Oriaku's voice.
"Ada, where are you going to?", Oriaku asked her.
"Emm, Emm, I was trying to check if I can dry my clothes outside", Ada lied. She had wanted to run out of the house and ask from help from anybody she comes across.
"Okay, go behind the building, there is line there", Oriaku said to her. "Be quick about it, there are other chores I would like you to attend to"
"Yes, ma", Ada said. Her plan had failed and she decided to halt it for now. She went to the backyard and spread her clothes out to dry.
Ada entered the house and went to Oriaku to ask her what she wanted her to do.
"Oya, go to the packing store, take broom and start sweeping the house. When you are through with that, sweep the compound and then wash the plates in the sink. When you are through, you come and help me prepare dinner", Oriaku said, trying out the methods her neighbour had given her; never to allow her any breathing space.
"Okay, ma", Ada answered humbly. She collected the broom and started sweeping the house. As she entered Oriaku's room and started sweeping, she dozed off and started sleeping. She was very tired as she has not rested after her journey and had not been offered any food to eat.
Oriaku who had been waiting for her to join her in the kitchen. The compound wasn't swept. Where could this girl be?, she thought to herself walked into her room and met her sleeping. She was furious and went into the kitchen to get her 'beating weapon' while Ada continued with her sleep oblivous of what was to befall her.
Ada's only warning was the bang on her head, she opened her eyes slightly and shut them again. Oriaku who only wanted to beat the girl a little to drive her point home was now scared. She shook Ada but she didn't budge. riaku didn't know what else to do than to raise alarm. She shouted at the top of her voice asking for help from anyone around while moving round the room, confused.
