This morning I met with Tanja and Stefan for some autumn photography, and we managed to get several pictures of squirrels in a local park here in Linz. Tanja brought a bag of nuts, and we placed them where the squirrels could see them, and then we waited for them to get closer. Because there are a lot of trees in the small forest, we had nearly perfect light conditions in the late morning. A little of sunshine, some shadows and also a combination of both. This usually makes the pictures more vibrant and interesting, and I am happy with the results, even though I forgot to limit the ISO on the Auto-ISO setting, and sometimes it bumped up incredibly high.

On the cementary where the Squirrels live there are also a lot of bird feeders where local people put some nuts, seeds and other food for the birds and the squirrels in the winter. So this place is also a good place for some #birdphotography in the autumn and winter. I will probably visit this place several times this winter for some bird photography since it is not far from my flat and I can easily walk there too. Squirrels are one of the most liked animals among children and adults. So probably whenever you see one of them you become happy and that is why there are often a lot of people mostly with children that feed the squirrels with nuts in the winter at least in the City. This is why a relatively high population of squirrels can often be found in city parks or cemeteries.

Usually you should not feed squirrels and other wild living animals since they often find a lot of good food for themselves. But if there is a strong winter and usually the squirrels don't have a hibernation sleep in winter but only reduce their activity. They still need some food to survive. Usually they have several depots of food that they prepared in autumn but in some stronger winters they sometimes need a bit of help. They prefer to eat hazelnuts, walnuts, dried corn kernels, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, raisins, grapes, apples and pears, cucumbers and carrots.
