The Little Ringed Plover is one of my favorite little birds that can be found here in Upper Austria. Fortunately there are still pretty common at least during the spring time and early summer it is easy to find them when you know some spots where they have enough gravel from the river or creek to build their nests. They nest on the ground on stones with little or no plant growth. Both males and females take turns incubating the eggs. On the shallow river shores they look for little insects to feed on.
It is so relaxing watching them hunting on the gravel. They run a few meters then they stop again, watch around and run again several meters, when they find something they pick it up with their beak and then they continue running to the next spot.
