Hi,@motherhood community! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
Today I want to share with you one of those really busy Saturdays of mine. It all started very early when it was my turn to take Gaby to her ballet class, and we took the opportunity to take her little cousin Aranza along too, since her mom was out of town—so sometimes she takes them one day and I take them the next. Well, as soon as these girls got in the car, they were already laughing, making up stories, and sharing that natural bond they have. Even though they’re two years apart, the truth is that they connect in an incredible way.
After attending her opera classes, we set out to run some errands, since we’re in the midst of preparing for Gaby’s graduation ceremony, so there were a few things we needed to buy and organize. As we went from store to store, the girls were full of boundless energy—climbing on the furniture, hiding under the clothes, chasing each other down the aisles, and laughing as if the world belonged to them. Seeing them like that, so happy and so close, warms my heart.
I love that they share so many activities together. Not only do they take swimming lessons and sing in the choir, but they also go to catechism class to prepare for First Communion. That has given them a shared routine beyond school, and I think it has greatly strengthened their bond. They’re cousins, yes, but they act like little sisters—they look out for each other, wait for each other, cheer each other on, and enjoy each other’s company.
While we were running errands, I found myself watching them for a moment. Gaby, with her personality and that strong, responsible nature, always making sure her cousin is okay. And her little cousin, with that playful spark that makes her laugh at the slightest thing. Together, they make the perfect team. I love seeing how they complement each other, how they understand each other without words, and how they find fun in every corner—even in a store full of clothes.
Sometimes you think family bonds just happen, but the truth is that they’re built day by day, through experiences like these. Through shared classes, after-swim snacks, or every outing; through impromptu games while we adults run errands; through those little moments that seem insignificant but, without us realizing it, form memories that last forever.
Yesterday, amid laughter, races, and impromptu games of hide-and-seek, I confirmed something I already knew: Gaby and her cousin are very lucky to have each other. And I’m lucky to be able to watch them grow up together, see how they support each other, and witness how they enjoy every stage of their lives. Cousins are a child’s first friends—those partners in crime who double the joy and turn boring errands into an unforgettable adventure. How wonderful it is to see them grow up so close.
