Hello my dear friends of the hive, I hope you are very well and this 2024 will be of much prosperity and abundance in everything you propose. Sorry if I'm still giving HAPPY YEAR! It's just that January has about 50 days 🤣.

I want to talk about a medical situation that I went through with my mother and it is incredible how every time I tell it, I see people with the same ailment and without any remedy for their discomfort.

WARNING! this is not a medical recommendation or do it at home! that's why I come to talk about the need to always seek the advice of experts but which experts?

Look, my mother is an older woman. Because she has worked for more than 50 years as an accountant, her bones and tendons are already worn out, on the one hand because of age and natural wear and tear and on the other hand because of her profession. Because of this, she has had spinal problems, cervical problems, osteoarthritis and on this particular occasion, her problem is with carpal tunnel. This tendon is located between the little finger and the connection with the wrist, as can be seen in the picture:

Our first choice was to go to an orthopaedic surgeon. We chose one who was recommended and who particularly treated me when I had my headaches. I didn't have much faith as my diagnosis wasn't the most accurate but she trusted and I just took her. The doctor said it was the carpal tunnel that was already worn out and I had two options; the first was analgesics, immobilisation and hope that this would help to reduce inflammation, for which he suggested a plaster cast for three weeks. From this he did not get better, he had to have an operation.

When talking about surgery we obviously know that it involves risks and problems as my mother is hypertensive and has allergic conditions, so we tried as far as possible to avoid having to resort to this option. We did the treatment for 3 weeks, but the experience with the plaster cast was fatal. It was very itchy, it swelled up because she would insert a stick to scratch herself and that would move the material until it formed a pressure that was blocking her circulation. She couldn't sleep, eat or bathe so I had to be her hands for those days. These are pictures of the moment we removed them:

The process was painful because it even cut him a bit and guess what: He didn't get better at all. Already thinking about the operation because the pain was more intense than the first time, we decided to go to the rheumatologist for a second opinion. Indeed, the diagnosis was the same with the same option of the operation, but first we would try a process of infiltration of the tendon.

This procedure consists of taking a medicine called NUVICORT and injecting it directly into the tendon with an insulin injector. The doctor very kindly indicated the treatment but did not allow photos when she was doing the procedure because she said "you make me nervous".

The process hurts. My mother says that from one to ten the pain is ten, but always with her optimism: if it's to cure me, I'll put up with it 😇. The injection takes about 3 minutes and I want to be very clear, ONLY A PROFESSIONAL MUST GIVE IT! To finish off, he sent us painkillers that do not hurt my mother and a wrist brace to keep the arm, finger and hand immobile for at least a week. If the pain persisted, we had to return a week later for a second infiltration. We ran to Farmatodo and this was the one we found:

Thank goodness we sent the photo to the doctor because she told us not to use that one as it leaves the fingers in the air and does not immobilise the little finger, which is the one we have to look after and leave at rest. She recommended a medical supplies shop and we went there. This one we are showing is the right one and it cost $20.

What was the result? My mum was healed 👏. There was no need for another session and she is now working normally. Of course I always ask her if she has any pain and she is happy to say no 😊. So that treatment worked and thanks to God who put that doctor in our way, no surgery was necessary. Thanks to you for reading and accompanying me in this story with a happy ending because my mother is healthy. All the pictures are part of the process we went through, the cover was edited in Canvas as well as the banner. See you next time.
