My dear community of emotions and feelings, I greet you from my heart. And I say it from my heart, because that is where the purest love for a partner is born.

And yes, the connoisseurs will say that it is the brain and the neurons that cause this process; and if we talk about the biological we would also say that it is a product of the hormones, and then come the physicists and so on. But I speak from the heart and love, that which pumps the blood, accelerates when we see the person we love and from so much love we don't turn red and blue. You know what kind of love I'm talking about, don't you? Yes, you know, because they smiled just remembering it 馃構.

Talking about couples is an exciting and very long topic, because we can talk about couples, types of couples, processes and conformation, maintenance, dissolution, conflicts, challenges, purposes, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

But I want to touch on a subject that is rarely talked about and when it is touched upon, besides creating controversy, it is answered with a resounding NO, until it touches you:

I am talking about second chances.

Relationships are beautiful. You want them to last a lifetime. Those first stages, where we experience desire, emotion, complicity, admiration, passion; we want to be "25 hours with that person" 馃尀馃寽馃導锔忦煂ワ笍 and where we show ourselves to be perfect beings, docile, mouldable and understanding in many things What a perfect relationship!

However, as we pass that stage, we become aware of certain situations that we do not like very much: we are forbidden or pass judgement on our friendships, infidelities, many parties, exhausting jobs, families meddling in the relationship, not so exes, which lead us to fight, discontent, disgust, separations, new attempts, hourly calls fighting, until finally the separation arrives.

The reason can be anything, but deep down we know and understand (when they are adult relationships), that there are situations that we can no longer bear and that affect our development as a couple. The simple fact of disrupting our life and coexistence, it becomes essential to separate.

Separadores-4.png

The moment of goodbye arrives, often or 99.9% of the time it is painful, sad, a series of events that lead to a definitive separation and when you ask yourself: What happened? We don't even know what to answer, because it's something like that:

"Well, we went on Saturday to the party.... We were upset because of what he did on Friday.... At the party he did such a thing... When we got home this happened.... He left and didn't call me..." And so we can tell the story many times, but we don't really understand that the goodbye has come.

This goodbye has stages of mourning, depending on who is being left and who they are leaving; but we can identify some of them: crying, unanswered calls, unsuccessful writings on social networks, going out with a friend to discuss over and over again what really happened that day, changes of look, failed outings with other people, in short, a series of acts that allow us to "forget that person who left or who we left".

Now, what about second chances?

Second chances in couples do exist. It is the alternative we have when there is still love in the relationship.

But when are they viable?

There are many signs, although every relationship is different and your situation or the state of the first attempt at a relationship is different. For example:

1.When there is still love. I am talking about love as a couple, not affection or habit. Love implies many more things: commitment, loyalty, freedom, dedication, purpose, passion, communication. In other words, I don't stay with a person because "the devil you know is better than the good you don't know", I stay with a person because I love him/her and I love myself.

I love, admire, respect and understand that this person is important to me and has attributes, qualities, behaviours that I love and deserve a second chance.

So if I truly love that partner, and I am able to forgive, then we can talk about a second chance.

Pero 驴Cu谩ndo son viables?

2.Identifying the reasons that caused us to separate. Because an act of uncontrolled jealousy or machismo is not an act of love. Then, when we identify whether we can improve, change, eliminate or transform the reason for the definitive separation, then we can talk about second chances.

A changeable situation would be the fact that the family interferes and decides in the relationship. Once the limits are established, once the couple starts to make decisions as a couple, at that moment, that situation is eliminated and we can talk about second chances because it is something external that could have affected the relationship, but not any more.

3.Commitment and action for change. When a relationship ends, we must remember why it ended. Not to live in resentment but to remember what we don't want to happen again, and that is where commitment to change comes in. The first few days will be honey and promises, but we must be vigilant that those changes actually happen.

If we decide to give a chance that will make us well and happy. Continuing with the previous example, if we promise that the family will not intervene in the affairs, demonstrate with facts that this will not happen again. It is not or should not be seen as a test or condition, but as an agreement and we should respect it for the sake of our relationship and our life. Because that is what we choose.

We should not wait, repeat the situation or expect it to happen again because that will deepen the main problem.

4.Finally, when not to give a second chance? When what you are is violated. There is aggression, abuse, violence, life endangerment, cheating that damages the relationship, addictions, in other words, when your life, health and well-being are threatened by behaviours that cause harm.

Specialist counselling and therapy can help, but saying "I am going to change" is a ticking time bomb.

Also, when the problem is repetitive, it becomes a cycle of we're done-we'll talk-we'll come back-we'll come back-we'll end-we'll talk-we'll come back-, for several cycles, this encourages abuse, breaking promises, until it escalates.

In these cases, it is better to talk about a definitive and healthy separation because before loving, I love myself and love is important in a relationship, but love is not everything.

Separadores-4.png

And so my dear friends, I end this entry, hoping that it will serve as a contribution to this magical and vast world of relationships.

I always encourage maintenance so as not to break up, but these are situations that exist and personally if it is to talk about second chances, we can do it because we deserve it, but always that what comes is better and not worse than how it was the first time.

And it will be until a new chance where we connect with our emotions and feelings
