There are only two days left until Autumn arrives, without a doubt my favourite season of the year. Ideal temperatures, occasional rain and colours in nature that I love.
However, in the garden it is a difficult and unpleasant time. Perhaps one of the times of the year with the most work for the gardener.
We are at the end of summer and we have to harvest the last summer vegetables such as tomatoes or aubergines. There will still be peppers and pumpkins that will hold up. Maybe some late melons but that will not be very appealing to eat. It is time to get down to work and begin to prepare the garden for autumn. We have already planted some things but not the main core.

We have to prepare the soil. First we will make a shallow dig, just enough to remove some unwanted weeds and plant again. However, if we have some area that we want to fertilize, this is without a doubt the best time, we will do it in the following way.
We will not dig the soil, we will use a rake to scrape the surface a little and then we will deposit our compost on top. We will let the worms do the work of slowly incorporating it into the soil for a couple of months. When we are going to plant, we will dig lightly.
Another good option if you have chickens is to let them roam around the garden at their own free will so they can do the hard work for you.
