In preparation for the new year, I went to the market to get some foodstuff and guess what? I saw one of my favourite fruits "African star apple"
Happy New Year everyone and welcome to my blog. This is my first time in this community and is glad to share it with you. It's a new year and I know some of us have set new goals for the year, some are still trying to put in new goals for the year, some are making plans to live a healthy life this year and many more goals.
I wish everyone the best of the year 2023.
AFRICAN STAR APPLE
It has a small apple-like shape with a sharp end and it's yellowish-red.
What do you call this fruit in your country or where you come from?
Am from the eastern part of Nigeria and we call it "UDARA" in Igbo. I live in the western part of Nigeria and they call it "AGBALUMO" in yoruba. It is also called African cherry.
It is delicious. it has a sweet and sour taste, just like the taste you get from the vitamin C tablet 100mg for adults.
During my ante-natal days, I took a lot of it. By this time of the year, most of them are not very sweet but some are, but I was so lucky to get this very sweet one from the market.
HOW DO YOU ENJOY YOUR OWN ?
I make sure it's fresh from the market and before I buy them I taste them in the market if it's very sweet so I can buy them in large quantities and store them in my fridge. Not everyone likes African star apple udara, I love it for its sweet and sour taste.
The milky juice that comes out of it when squeezed or sucked is not only satisfying like the chewable skin, I eat everything apart from the seed.
I eat the food inside until it turns to gum and I continue chewing the gum like regular chewing gum until am tired. I do the same for the skin of the fruit, I chew the skin of the fruit until it becomes chewing gum.
Everything about this fruit is sweet and edible apart from its seed.
I heard it has a lot of health benefits. You can try African star apple when you come across it.
Thanks for reading.
