once I dreamed I was a bird, soaring through the blue,
Free to go where I please, and do what I want to.
I capered in the pools, I sang among the trees,
I sailed to faraway places, floating on the breeze.
But now when I see the sky, it just fills me with rage.
Because I had to wake, and found myself back in my cage.
A cage not of steel, but of flesh, what some would call life.
Dying without dignity, being killed by poverty and strife.
Dying without hope, slowly crushed by the machine.
Forced to stain my hands, so that others remain clean.
Forced to face the truth, that I’ll never be the one to fly.
The only thing left to feel, is an urge to kill the sky.
