New Year's Eve 2023-2024 in Venice, Day 1 | Eng-Ita

If I close my eyes, I can still hear the sound of footsteps on the streets of Venice, the crisp air of Venetian December and the enchantment of Christmas lights reflected in the canals. The trip that my boyfriend and I took to Venice for New Year's Eve 2023-2024 was an unforgettable experience, a perfect mix of art, history and festive atmosphere.

Our first day began with a walk through the streets of the city, where every corner seemed to want to tell a story. We explored Venice far and wide, but there are some stops that are absolutely worth tell.

Our first stop was the magnificent Basilica dei Frari. This sacred place is a treasure trove of works of art, but what left us breathless was the funerary monument to Antonio Canova.

Its grandeur and intricate detail seemed to capture eternity itself. The photos we took of the details of the basilica tell much more than words: the play of light on the statues, the finely carved marbles, and the solemn atmosphere that you breathe inside.

The second stop was the famous Church of San Marco. Every detail of its golden facade seemed to glow in the winter light.

We were lucky enough to climb up to the dome, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the lagoon and the square. Looking at Venice from above is an emotion indescribable.

I've taken tons of photos of the golden mosaics and the interiors of the church, true masterpieces that speak of unparalleled mastery time.

Walking on the Rialto Bridge is like entering a postcard. The artisan workshops and the view of the Grand Canal are a must for anyone visiting Venice.

We spent some time admiring the traffic of the gondolas and vaporetti, a unique microcosm that only this city can offer.

Among the details that fascinated me the most is the statue of the Hunchback of Rialto, a singular work rich in history. Located near the bridge, this small sculpture depicts a man bent under the weight of a pedestal. It once served as a landmark for public proclamations and adds a touch of mystery and tradition to this already fascinating place. I couldn't resist immortalizing its image with a photo, to take a fragment of this curious Venetian legend with me.

One ​​of the things that struck us most was the Christmas atmosphere of the Venetian streets. The decorations and lights created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, despite the winter weather. We walked for hours, getting lost in the alleys and squares, and every corner seemed to hide a surprise: a small shop, a view of the canal or a light reflecting on the water.

We ended the day at the Scala Contarini del Bovolo, a place that seems to have come out of a dream. Climbing the spiral staircase, we found ourselves on a terrace that offered a spectacular view of Venice at sunset. The city lights were slowly turning on, and the first darkness was wrapping everything in a magical atmosphere.

Venice during the Christmas period has something unique and unrepeatable. Every place we visited was a piece of a mosaic that we will always carry with us. This trip was not only an opportunity to celebrate the new year, but also a way to immerse ourselves in the beauty and art of a timeless city.

Se chiudo gli occhi, riesco ancora a sentire il suono dei passi sulle calli di Venezia, l'aria frizzante del dicembre veneziano e l'incanto delle luci natalizie riflesse nei canali. Il viaggio che io e il mio fidanzato abbiamo fatto a Venezia per il Capodanno 2023-2024 è stato un'esperienza indimenticabile, un perfetto mix di arte, storia e atmosfera festiva.

Il nostro primo giorno è iniziato con una passeggiata tra le strade della città, dove ogni angolo sembrava voler raccontare una storia. Abbiamo esplorato Venezia in lungo e in largo, ma ci sono alcune tappe che meritano assolutamente di essere raccontate.

La nostra prima tappa è stata la magnifica Basilica dei Frari. Questo luogo sacro è un tesoro di opere d'arte, ma quello che ci ha lasciato senza fiato è stato il monumento funebre ad Antonio Canova.

La sua maestosità e i dettagli intricati sembravano catturare l'eternità stessa. Le foto che abbiamo scattato ai particolari della basilica raccontano molto più delle parole: il gioco di luci sulle statue, i marmi finemente scolpiti, e l'atmosfera solenne che si respira all'interno.

La seconda tappa è stata la celebre Chiesa di San Marco. Ogni dettaglio della sua facciata dorata sembrava brillare sotto la luce invernale.

Abbiamo avuto la fortuna di salire sulla cupola, da dove si gode una vista mozzafiato verso la laguna e sopra la piazza. Guardare Venezia dall'alto è un'emozione indescrivibile.

Ho scattato tantissime foto dei mosaici dorati e degli interni della chiesa, veri capolavori che parlano di una maestria senza tempo.

Tra i dettagli che più mi hanno affascinato c'è la statua del Gobbo di Rialto, un'opera singolare e ricca di storia. Situata vicino al ponte, questa piccola scultura raffigura un uomo piegato sotto il peso di un piedistallo. Un tempo, serviva da punto di riferimento per le pubbliche proclamazioni e aggiunge un tocco di mistero e tradizione a questo luogo già intriso di fascino. Non ho resistito a immortalare la sua immagine con una foto, per portare con me un frammento di questa curiosa leggenda veneziana.

Una delle cose che più ci ha colpito è stata l'atmosfera natalizia delle calli veneziane. Gli addobbi e le luminarie creavano un'atmosfera calda e accogliente, nonostante il clima invernale. Abbiamo camminato per ore, perdendoci tra vicoli e campielli, e ogni angolo sembrava nascondere una sorpresa: una piccola bottega, una vista sul canale o una luce che si rifletteva sull'acqua.

Abbiamo concluso la giornata alla Scala Contarini del Bovolo, un luogo che sembra uscito da un sogno. Salendo la scala a chiocciola, ci siamo ritrovati su una terrazza che offriva una vista spettacolare su Venezia al tramonto. Le luci della città si accendevano piano piano, e il primo buio avvolgeva tutto in un'atmosfera magica.

Venezia durante il periodo natalizio ha qualcosa di unico e irripetibile. Ogni luogo che abbiamo visitato è stato un tassello di un mosaico che porteremo sempre con noi. Questo viaggio non è stato solo un'occasione per festeggiare il nuovo anno, ma anche un modo per immergerci nella bellezza e nell'arte di una città senza tempo.
