Circeo, in love with hiking, nature, and childhood places

Who followed my posts, should now, by now, how much I'm in love, obsessed with Circeo and the whole seaside of the pontine area. These are the places where I spent all my childhood's Summers, where I had the first experiences: first bone broken, first kiss, first love, first friendship's disappointments, and where I first learnt how to sail... it's all there.

Every time I happen to go for the hike to Mount Circeo I can't help but being always fascinated. No matter how many times I saw the view, every time is like the first one. I'm sure each one of us has their own magical place, where they just feel in peace, and every piece of their life seems to be perfectly in tune with the majesty of the place. This is the place to me.

I remember that day was supposed to rain. My friend Elisabetta, who works in Brussels, came bake to Italy to stay for Easter break and wanted to go hiking on Mount Circeo so bad. I was so happy to go again there, I think I've done that hike at least 15 times in the past 6 years. Why so many? Because with my colleagues at university, we chaperone students around Italy for sport trips, and we usually go to Circeo for a day trip. It's just crazy that I get paid to go around this beautiful places! Of course, as a chaperone, you also have the responsibility of leading a group of students and if anything bad happens, that's on you. But hey, that's al right if all that happens is just for the good!

That day, however, we were not on a sport trip for work, and we enjoyed the hike very much because, for once, we hiked at our pace! Without worrying about any other on the same path. We were just a little bit unlucky with the visibility because that day the rain was in the forecast and in general the pressure was pretty low, so we encountered a lot of fog on our way.

The scenario was still outstanding, very cinematic and new for my eyes, as I've never experience that hike in foggy conditions. It was also a bit more dangerous than how much it already is, because the fog was sometimes very low, so much so that you had to pay a lot of attention on where you were stepping. Incredible though, still beautiful!

I personally don't like the way down, I've always preferred the way up, because I feel less pain in my knees compared to the downhill. However, if there was one thing I truly low about the way down was the sea of cyclamens covering the ground all over the path into the woods, giving a bright color to the grey atmosphere of that foggy day. Simply gorgeous.

è tutto accaduto lì, in quei luoghi.

Semplicemente stupendo.
