I love eating oranges. Often, I squeeze several oranges and drink them with the pulp, as shown below. This means that I get a delicious, thirst quenching drink and all the health benefits of the whole fruit. I also add one to my green smoothies for sweetness 🍹.
One of my memories of travelling around Morocco was that that there was freshly squeezed orange juice all over the markets as they grow a lot of oranges in the country. In Seville, I saw beautiful small oranges growing on the trees. Seville oranges are famously used to make marmalade.
When I was pregnant, I had cravings for oranges and chillies 🍊🌶 in huge quantities. I ate 6 to 8 oranges every day. Perhaps I was craving vitamin C, which oranges have in abundance. One orange provides 130% of your recommended intake a day which boosts immunity. I have a lot of allergies so it seemed intuitive that I craved oranges and chillies. Oranges are also high in fibre, thiamin, potassium, anti-oxidants and folate.
Oranges are reputed to lower the risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, prevent kidney stones and fight damage to skin.
During winter when fresh berries and other summer fruits have to be flown in, citrus fruits are in season and plentiful, @fleur 🍊
