We always have apples in our home, usually bought from the market but at this time of year, there are lots of apples to be foraged in our local park. Most of them are cooking apples and all the apples will be in their natural state as they are organic and not treated with pesticides.
If you forage for apples, I donβt recommend eating those found on the ground as they may have worms and maggots boring into them π.
We like bake cooking apples in apple crumble with custard π. We also like to juice fresh apples with raw carrots as it makes a delicious health drinkπΉ.
Have you heard the old Welsh proverb, βan apple a day keeps the doctor awayβ? Well, apples are a super food being rich in anti-oxidants, flavonoids and dietary fibre. They contain vitamins A and B, phytonutrients, calcium, potassium and phosphorus.
Apples are reputed to prevent dementia, lower cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of a stroke and diabetes, ward off breast cancer and prevent diabetes.
However, the seeds do contain a small amount of cyanide and so you should not eat or juice too many of these, @fleur π
