Whilst my son had a tennis lesson, my daughter and I waited in the tennis clubhouse.
The manager informed us that the club had just had two wasps nests removed but the Queen wasps had left the nest and were still inside the clubhouse. He was putting up warning signs.
At this time of year, I am told, the Queen wasp has created a lot of Queen wasps who are ready to go out and create new nests.
Whilst we sat there 6 Queen wasps appeared and were either caught and let out or were hoovered up.
Unfortunately, just as we were about to leave, I thought I saw one near a toddler. Before I could check, she screamed and her mother and a friend began to tear at the toddler’s clothes to get rid of the wasp. It was too late. The wasp has stung the girl on her throat.
I ran off to find the manager to administer first aid in case the girl suffered anaphylactic shock. The manager came running as I left with my children.
I usually carry an epi-pen as I have a lot of allergies but I didn’t have one with me today. My children are very worried and possibly terrified of wasps now. Hopefully the girl is ok and we will see her next week.
