Truck, Greenhouse Lines, 4th Grade Walk, Creek, Hike, 1lb Garlic Scapes, Weeding, Dinner, Trailer, NHL - Thursday

After taking the boys to their last day of school yesterday morning I heard another grinding sound from the truck. I got home and jacked up the rear end so both tires were off the ground, blocked the front tires, put it in drive and watched the wheels and driveshafts spinning. I heard no noise so I lowered it and jacked up the right front and when I spun the wheel heard the grinding. It was just the heat shield rubbing on the rotor. A quick mashing of the shield and it was clear and the truck sounded nice and normal once again.

Before it got too hot I went to the greenhouse and tied up my lines for all the growing cucumbers and tomatoes.

I have way more tomatoes growing than cucs which I need to throw some seeds in the blank spots today.

It was J's last day at his elementary school since next year he goes up to the middle school for 5th grade. The school does a 4th grade walk where a bunch of the classes come out and wave them off and the principal got J with the water gun.

You can see the face on him with the water guns...

@stryeyz went back to work and the boys were starting their summer break. I grabbed the lopping shears and my biggest length of galvanized pipe and headed down to the creek. I cut myself a path to the stump in the creek then used the pipe to lever the thing up and out of the flow. The stump had caused the water to back up through the tunnel which caused higher water and more likelihood of washing away the road and possibly destroying the tunnel.

I got the stump up out of the water flow and it did wonders. the level dropped dramatically and the flow sped up which drew a ton of sand down with it that had settled in the tunnel. I still have to chainsaw the stump into pieces but at least now the creek can flow normally.

While checking the upstream side of the tunnel I was super happy to see the raspberry plant I brought from my childhood home is growing quite nicely.

It was early afternoon and I went for a hike up the hill to check the fenceline after the high winds we have had lately. On the way up the hillside I found a bunch of nifty rocks. This heart shaped one stood out from the others.

The valley is still green which is a good sign as it has been bone dry in prior years at this time.

A handful of the nifty rocks I found. Nice variegated ones.

More flowers are exploding all over the top of the hill.

I was looking at the garlic and noticed that they HAD began growing scapes. I grabbed a tub and my shears and hacked them all off. I got an even pound of scapes in the fridge.

Then I hand pulled weeds in a 10x5 foot area and got the big mound that needs to be hauled to the animals.

I got dinner made which was a goulash that I haven't made in a long time. It is super tasty and super easy to make with the Instapot. Ground beef, rice, cooked frozen veggies, and canned mushrooms (which the boys both love!!!!).

I had to get the trailer hooked up but on my way out I looked to the west and saw an ominous darkness. I pulled up the doppler and saw the rain band out to the west and knew I was seeing the eastern edge of the front.

The darkness was moving north northeast and stayed on the horizon.

The trailer got hooked up for the grain run I have done already.

Florida beat up on the Oilers and are looking like they could sweep the series.

Got out to soak but was inside early and to bed early.

I have been to town this morning for a couple barrels of grain and have them emptied into the sheep pen. It sprinkled overnight but moved off before dawn. Today I have to pull more weeds in the gardens and dump them to the animals, mow, PDC is on mid day, get cucumber seeds in the ground, cajole the boys into cleaning, then I will get a fire going this evening and grill for dinner.
