We made it off the farm not too long after we had hoped and were on the road shortly after 9am. The day was slotted for a mellow like distance of 6 hours.
It took a bit to get onto the freeway but we were heading out of Spokane about 9:45am. The traffic wasn't too terrible for a Friday morning and things mellowed fairly well. Little highway patrol presence so traffic flowed quite nicely.
After managing our way through the tri-cities and the awful 395 through Kennewick we were down into the Columbia river gorge which is really amazing. The river is huge thanks to all the various dams that are built along it. We hit Biggs junction for gas then headed South on the 97. The bad thing about the 97 is the 2 lane road for a lot of it but thankfully the traffic didn't get atrocious until we hit Madras which lead to throngs of cars all the way to Bend.
We got to the hotel in Downtown and settled in for a bit. It was a bit after 4pm when we checked in and by 5pm we were walking the few blocks to the Deschutes Public house for dinner. We got there and quickly got seated.
We got our IPAs and then got a glass of the most amazing Molasses Ginger Cookie Imperial Porter which was super tasty. Both @stryeyz and I got a salad with salmon and tomato coconut bisque soup. Both paired quite nicely with the IPAs.
By the time we were done the place had gotten packed and while we waited for a growler to be filled I heard the wait time was up to a half hour. There were a big slew of people all bedecked in ski gear still throughout that had me scanning the map to find likely they were down from Mt Bachelor.
The short walk back to the hotel was nice with the lit up streets of downtown Bend.
We watched Battlebots and What on Earth episodes before going to bed early so we could be up early this morning for our 2nd longest driving day of the trip. We will stop in Sacramento for lunch with our friend before continuing south to the south entrance to Yosemite.
