b>My first task of the day yesterday was to get the ashes shoveled out of the fire pit. They had cooled enough so I could put them straight to the trash can I use to store them. I was surprised by how much it filled up but they will settle over time and give me some more room to top off the can later this summer. The ashes are all stored for Spring time when I spread them over the gardens prior to tilling.
It was a bit warm already but around 11am I was in the greenhouse tying the tomatoes to the strings again. There were about half of them that needed more ties and there are a plethora of flowers all over the p,ants with a number of tomatoes growing already. This is WAY faster than my outdoor plants that are tiny and barely flowering now.
Single stem plants are going to give me a really early harvest of tomatoes, earlier than I have ever had.
I noticed that the lettuce in the greenhouse is growing really well too and it had a bunch of leaves that needed to be picked. I ended up with .75 pounds of lettuce leaves that went to the fridge in the house. The plants are starting to bolt in the heat of the greenhouse so I will get another harvest or two before they come up.
I filled a larger tub weeding along the fence line. It was hot so I didn't get to terribly far. The animals liked the greens though.
I didn't pick weeds long because I saw the peas needed to be picked so I got my basket and picked down the row which ended up giving me 3.25 pounds which went to the fridge to cool down for eating later in the day.
It was around 2pm and I finally decided to go to the high school to do some kiting. It has been weeks since I had my wing out so it felt good to get it up in the air. The boys brought their small kites and their roller blades which they quickly went into the football field and track to roll around. I managed to get quality kiting in and I really had control of it this time. No getting drug around the field on my face this time.
The winds were off and on but I did get some really good sessions in with the wing easily held in the air in front of me. It felt REALLY good much of the time and the wort part was how hot it was. I had noticed people at the fire department and figured they were able to see me on the field right next to their station. It pretty hard to NOT see my wing when it is in the air.
I had done about 40 minutes of kiting and was super thirsty and hot. I dropped my wing and harness for a few minutes to cool off with the boys.
That is the fire station and I use this field because they have the flag pole so I can use the flag as my wind sock.
J ran to jump into the shot. Quite the little ham.
They spent much of the time in the stadium on their roller blades. After my rest I went back out for one more session before packing up and heading for home. I was super happy with the kiting and it felt really comfortable this time with no hesitations and little frustration. I am REALLY REALLY anxious to go fly now.
After getting home I popped up our telegram chat for the club and Josh was asking who was kiting in Riverside. It appears that I was quite the show for the firefighters and somehow Josh had heard about it who is a paramedic in the county. One thing that can be said for sure is it is probably the safest place I could be kiting as if by some weird chance I got hurt the emergency crews are right there.
Back on the farm I went to pick some of the summer squash that I had seen earlier in the day. I got right at 3 pounds and this year I will be getting much less per day than prior years as I only have the 2 rows planted.
I then went to the bean rows and picked a handful from each of the 3 types which ended up being about 10 feet of the rows. The capitano gave me the most weight, the Roc d Or gave me the most, and the Jade were the hardest to find to pick. It was a pound of beans and they are primed to really start putting out soon.
R came out to pick some peas but they were for him to eat as I had picked the bulk earlier in the day. It really is wonderful that our boys love vegetables as much as they do.
Dinner ended up being a bit more simple and we were out soaking a lot earlier so we could get in a couple episodes of Mrs. Maisel before bed.
Today @stryeyz is off work and we are going to go kayaking with the boys up at Horseshoe lake to the north of us. We'll stop in Deer Park on the way home then I have plenty more work to do around the farm.
