This is a pretty special picture for me because it's the first class of kids I taught! I was freshly 22 and took a summer position at the Canadian International School in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. It was pretty crazy, since I had 0 teaching experience, and it was my first time out of North America. I even helped organize field trips like this one! At the time, I wasn't really aware of how important and formative going to Vietnam was. I was lucky and had two very good and experienced teacher friends there to help support me, and my students were clearly great kids.
I really enjoy rock climbing! I want to go more, but I've had to take a wee break. I'm not sure if any of you remember the post I made a while back, but I took a bit of a fall from a bouldering wall. Turns out I actually fractured my leg and my students were right--which they will love hearing about when we return from spring break. It feels much better today, and I even went for a good long walk with some lovely people and doggos. I had a funny conversation with my Dad about it though, where he told me once that he didn't go to the hospital for a broken leg until a few days after. It was so bad that he had to crawl to bed. Mine was just a fracture but I did wait a couple weeks for X-Rays. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree? Silly tree and stubborn apple, if you ask me.
