It was a long time ago

In the mid-nineties I was a Corporal in the Air Training Corps, when I was lucky enough to be chosen to stay at the British base RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus. So, one day we were all treated to a flight on a Wessex helicopter (pictured below), and as we were being directed to board the big bird, when an Officer screamed at us to keep our eyes to the right, and of course I couldn't help but take a peek to my left, and saw a very peculiar looking aircraft taxiing down the runway next to us.

I had no idea what type of aircraft it was, but I vividly remember the air intakes were round similar to the Harrier jump-jet. I later found out that the aircraft was in fact a U2 spy plane and that's the reason our Officer gave us the hair-dryer treatment before boarding.

Looking back, it was super cool and being in the Air Training Corps, were some of the best years of my life. Character building and personal development were two major factors the ATC instilled in me as a teenager, and the nostalgia has just swept over me.

I come from an age when we never had digital cameras, so photographic memories from old can be lost, damaged or destroyed (lots already gone). Having these on the blockchain will now add a layer of insurance, should my cats eat them, well you know what I mean. Now where's my old school report? ;-D
