Now, he is afraid to grow up and forget. Just like everybody else...
When I hear little kids talking (Really talking. When they are not under the pressure of their parents' look) I can sense they see things very differently from us.
I am not talking about mixing fantasy with reality or anything of the sort (Even if they do that sometimes). No. I am talking about the way they see reality.
For them, the reality is actually quite simple. Is black or white. A perfectly constructed duality. There are good things, good people, good situations, and bad things, bad people and bad situations. Obviously, sometimes this brutally simple way of looking life is not enough for complicated issues, but it is quite powerful for most everyday situations.
A child would see a couple fighting. Hurting each other. And they wonder why don’t they stop it. Just that. Stop it. They usually don’t care who wins, who loses, if this is about faith or honor or money or whatever.
They are hurting each other. So, stop it.
Is that guy hungry? Feed him. Just like that. Feed him so he is not hungry anymore. Does your job make you unhappy? Get another one. Does that beer/wine/drugs/game/whatever stuff make you being mean to us? Stop drinking/betting/using/whatever and start being nice to us. Do you want to play with me? Why not? Is that thing that bothers you more important than playing and being happy with me? Why?
Black and white.
And I just can wonder what do little children think about us. About us adults. Sometimes I think they can actually see we are hurting ourselves. Even slowly killing ourselves. And those difficult questions and playing invitations and all that is because they actually want to help us out. Help us understand again the basics. To remember how to live better.
They want to save us. And we just say no.
And then they grow up, and they forget. Just like we did.
