Last summer my husband and I volunteered for 3 weeks at a glamping eco place in the Algarve region of Portugal (will share about this amazing experience soon). I taught daily yoga classes in the Algarve wilderness and helped cook daily vegetarian lunch for the 10 volunteers, whereas my husband was building things.

When we were done with our shift and after lunch, every day around 2pm, we would all hop in the car to explore the beaches on the Algarve coast.

The coast is without a doubt spectacular and unique from any other coast I have seen in Europe (think Australian 12 apostles). However the amount of tourists in the most beautiful beaches is truly unbearable for me. I just cannot sit with other people feet and towels touching mine. Am I too selfish to want the whole beach to myself?! 馃ぃ Perhaps in June/September it is a different scene, when less people travel.

But there is hope! Most people in general don't like to walk while on a beach holiday. Which means, for those of us that are ok to keep walking to more remote coves and beaches, we will eventually be rewarded with more secluded places.

And since we were there for 3 weeks, we found quite a few lovely and lonely places. Here are some of my favorites if you don't like crowds like me and don't mind a little bit of adventure:

  1. Figueiras beach
  2. Barranco beach
  3. Praia de Albandeira (hike to the left after parking the car)
  4. Praia de Albina

Next time, I'll tell you the story of volunteering in Algarve.
Happy Saturday everyone!!
