Just a bunch of random thoughts on governments, Bitcoin, Steem after seeing this meme on my newsfeed.
Even as I file my returns and pay my taxes year after year, I realised what the meme says very early on in my life. I'm so glad to be part of the cryptocurrency space today earning my income outside of the traditional geographically bound economy of India where the only legal tender is the Rupee which continues to grow weaker as the years roll on.
I don't think I've said this before here even as I've mentioned it to my friends and family in recent times. I earn 100% of my income in cryptos now through different activities in this space. Even if someone offers to pay me in Rupees I prefer cryptos. I learn't that from Andreas Antonopoulos! I just hope that I can keep this going as long as it's possible.
Governments come and go but in India- a country deeply rooted in religion and religious bigotry, the government has played a major role in ensuring people get dumber as the years roll on and keep voting blindly to keep them in power.
Power hungry and willing to go to any extent to stick their hands into our pockets, governments everywhere tend to be more or less the same. Some actually do get some consistently good deeds done for their citizens but most end up reducing the value of our money overtime.
Bitcoin might not be the perfect cryptocurrency but it certainly can't be controlled by any government and that's just fantastic. I hope it continues to grow and push governments to accept it because people won't stop using it even if the government calls for a ban or puts a gun to someone's head they can't make it disappear anymore.
I know I won't stop using cryptocurrency even if India bans it!
I'm also glad for Steem because despite its various flaws it has empowered thousands of people including myself with some extra cash for our thoughts and opinions. These systems are as rare as they come.
It's truly incredible what can be accomplished with truly decentralised systems but it's pretty radical what we've accomplished with Steem given it's semi-centralised nature as i've seen some people call it in recent times.
Whatever maybe the case, we need systems that empowers people to earn outside of the clutches of their governments. Because no government today, atleast in the context of my country is able to provide food, clothing, shelter, employment and job security to all it's citizens and yet expects each and everyone to pay their dues to the government or be penalised for failing to do that.
Decentralised systems can achieve so much if more people worked on building and even re-building and removing flaws as they see in creating these systems.
I'm no anarchist, but I like the idea that decentralised systems can do so much more for people than hundreds of years of centralised governance has accomplished in the unforeseen future.
Technology is certainly centralising everything and aiding governments to control people more than ever before by helping them control the narratives they want to subject citizens to.
Maybe we can continue to work on improving the systems here on Steem so that maybe a decade down the road, people know that our blockchain played a part in freeing some people from being subjugated, if not everyone from the clutches of power hungry governments.
It's just something on my mind after I saw this meme. But there's so much more to this. I'm grateful for the existence of Bitcoin, cryptocurrency and blockchain technology in decentralised forms every single day ever since I first stumbled into this a decade ago. I do wish I had taken it a lot more seriously back but I am now, and from some years.
Now, all I care about is sticking with this space as it's my life now. I want to see where it goes and where I can go with it.
Decentralised borderless cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin seems like the last vestige of real freedom that we can have as governments continue to put up walls, and tightens restriction on free movement across our planet.
Money is power and governments control us by controlling money. They don't control Bitcoin and we need cryptocurrencies to be able to do things for the benefit of people who wish to live a life without subjugation.
