So, a few weeks ago I shared this post about some of my favorite sayings and proverbs. I was really well received and I learned some new sayings to add to my collection. So I decided to share a little more about this form of wisdom and write about some others sayings that I really love.
But this time, I decided to focus on the funny ones. I believe that if you can make something fun, it will be a lot easier to learn and remember. We have some great ( and deep) funny sayings here in Brazil, and hopefully they will be as funny in English as they are in Portuguese, so I'll do my best to translate it. This time I won't be explaining because most of them are really straight foward, but I'll still comment them all.
So here they are:
1- For those who are drowning, any alligator is a log
Pra quem tá se afogando, qualquer jacaré é tronco
Sometimes you are in such a bad situation, that anything that comes your way you'll take
2- What a fart is for someone who has already shit his pants
O que é um peido pra quem já ta cagado
A little different from the one above. Normally with this one you are in a bad situation, so it doesn't matter if something else bad comes up.
3- Something wrong is not right
Algo de errado não está certo
Deep this one right? Sometimes you have to say this one over and over again until people really understand what's going on...
4- Sometimes it is better to be quiet and let them think you are an idiot than to open your mouth and leave no doubt.
Às vezes é melhor ficar quieto e deixar que pensem que você é um idiota do que abrir a boca e não deixar nenhuma dúvida.
Ouch, this one could be the motto of a lot of places right?
5- You are never useless... you can still be a bad exemple
Você nunca é um completo inútil... você ainda pode ser um mal exemplo
If you are feeling down, think of this one! For sure it can give you a new boost in life!
6- Don't take life so seriously, after all no one will come out of it alive.
Não leve a vida tão a sério, afinal ninguém sairá vivo dela.
This is one of my favorites! I think we all should just take things a little more easy and enjoy the ride. After all, it can end at anytime, so better to enjoy right?
7- To have a clear conscience is to have a weak memory
Ter a consciência limpa é ter a memória fraca
This is one that I think is a little bit harsh, but reality is that we all have done things that maybe we are not so proud, so this saying becomes really true.
8- More lost than a blind man in a gunfight
Mais perdido que cego em tiroteio
This is more of an expression than a saying, but is also one of my favorites. Doesn't it just summarize so well a feeling?
9- Pepper up other people's asses is refreshment.
Pimenta no cu dos outros é refresco.
This one is mostly used to talk about people who don't care to hurt others. You can find the variation of "eyes" instead of asses, but I feel this one has more strength.
10- Writing is turning your worst moments into money
Escrever é transformar os seus piores momentos em dinheiro
This last saying is PERFECT for POB no? At least we get to share and laugh about ourselves! As that old saying also goes"True wisdom is to know how to laugh about yourself!"
And what about you? Do you have a favorite saying? Do you know any funny one? Or maybe one that's really common in your culture? Share it with me!!!
Thanks for reading all the way! And until next time...
Keep posting and keep shining!
