La cabeza de Ónfale, según Charles Gleyre (1808-1874)

The head of Omphale, according to Charles Gleyre (1808-1874)

Saludos, estimada comunidad

Greetings, dear community
Today we bring another art history pill thanks to the book by master Charles Bargue. In these photos that I have taken with my cell phone you can see a drawing of a female head. Who is that? Well, it happens to be an image of a classical sculpture of Hercules and Omphale, called "Hercules at the feet of Omphale". That woman was a queen of Greek antiquity, she had a relationship with the great Heracles. Who did the original master drawing? The original illustration is plate 13 of part II of Charles Bargue's "Cours de Dessin". The drawing in the book seems to have been made by Gleyre, one of Charles Bargue's teachers. It is one of the drawings of faces that we have in the second part of the book to learn how to make portraits. It is necessary to copy the plates of the book to study the details. For example in this drawing you have to work the shadows and the blurring of the face.
In my copy I worked on Bristol paper and used both sticks and graphite pencils. One HB pencil and two sticks, one 4B and one 6B.
