When starting to learn a language I am a big fan of the"baby/child approach"馃懚
Tip No.1. 馃摑
Ignore grammar it just makes you feel like you don麓t understand the language. Know that you will make mistakes. Baby麓s don麓t bother with this either they just want to do what they think is speaking. rablablablablabla
Building up a more or less random vocabulary just to play around with is enough.
Tip No.2 馃摑
Though it will be of more use later on, surround yourself by the language. Using music and videos, comics, simple texts, children stuff, anything. Hearing the language supports the subconscious learning process and, even if its just one word you hear/understand in a song, it will make you feel like you achieved something. Additionally it trains/prepares your listening ability from the very beginning. Language can be like a frequence you have to get used to hearing so you don麓t have to focus on it while listening.
Tip No. 3 馃摑
Include it in your daily life much more as a hobby less as a "duty". Watch about 20 min videos on a daily bases to keep in touch with new vocab and strengthening old vocabulary. This is a good excuse for being too lazy to learn.If you don麓t feel like learning you can always watch a video or listen to music read a comic... . Include the use of the language in daily life. For example you are learning Portuguese and you see the moon (lua) call it lua if you see a cup (copo) call it copo.
Enjoy what you do!! Keep it playful and always keep in mind the baby approach.
These are just ideas of mine and since we are all different take what you like of it to built your own language learning style. Finally very important help for any level is a language partner, someone who is native to the language or very good at it. To practice face to face with.馃挰馃憖
