Another story about my move from Belgium to Spain. This time I will tell you about the weather. If you tell people that you move to Spain, or that you live there, the first reaction is: "Oh nice! Always sun and nice weather". In Belgium a lot of people go on a holiday to Spain and it's still one of the top destinations. But that's in summer time. How about the rest of the year? These days the first big heat wave is in Spain, so time to tell about the weather.

I arrived in Spain in October 2021. The weather was lovely and the sun was shining. Almost every day we had our lunch and dinner outside. The temperature was nice, not too hot. Just perfect!
Slowly we were going to December ... And still the weather was lovely. I always take a afternoon nap and most of the times I was laying in my hammock. Some days I had to put it in the shade because I was melting in the sun. We had temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius in the sun. In the shade it was still between 20-25. I didn't expect that it would be so nice in winter time. Running around on Christmas Day in a short and T-shirt is a luxury! But I have to admit, the evenings were getting colder.
New Year's Day we had a drink with my cousin on his balcony. What a way to celebrate the new year!
And the days went by ... Until March. Then it was suddenly a lot colder and it started to rain. And we had rain for almost 1 month and a half! At that time the weather in Belgium was extraordinary. They had sunny and warm days and I was sitting in the rain. According to the news it was the wettest month since the recordings! At that time I realised the apartment was very cold. It was 16 degrees inside and there is no central heating. So I had to warm up with the airco. I was a bit worried about the costs, but after heating one month the electricity bill was okay. Luckily it's much cheaper here compared to Belgium!
I needed to dry my laundry inside, because it didn't stop raining. I didn't expect this in Spain. The hotel in front of us is it not being used. It's standing there complete useless since 2016. Because of all the rain they had to pump out the water from the cellar during 8 days and nights with 2 pumps! Before the rain came, the farmers were begging for water. Sadly with the persistent rainfall 30% of the crops were rotten. It was a complete disaster to them.
I thought that was it ... Okay rain it's not nice, but it is what it is. But then it was the end of March and the blood rain came. In Spain they call it "Lluvia de sangre". The clouds are bringing Sahara dust and it really looks amazing. The sky turns orange and you have mud everywhere. There's only one solution: Cleaning!!!
Finally at the end of April the weather changed and slowly it was getting better. I returned to Belgium May 14 and in a couple of days I will return to Spain. I wonder how the summer will be. I'm lucky with my apartment as it is a cold one. I live on the second floor of a 3 store building. So the upper one protects me from the heat. The balcony is very deep, so the sun can't reach the windows. In the colder months it's a disadvantage, but I think I will love it in summertime. If you are looking for a new place to move, consider this as well in your choice! It might look stupid, but it can be very important to know.
