Hacker locked Healthcare Center files here in Uruguay and asked for a 15-bitcoin ransom payment to unlock them.
Justice informed that a hacker was arrested last September because he had hacked the Healthcare's computer system based on Montevideo. He had stolen part of its database and he asked for a 15-bitcoin ransom. At that time bitcoin was around US$ 4000.
The robbery was carried out by an Uruguayan engineer in his apartment located in the Montevideo. The Technological Crimes Department followed his IP address (in which he had sent emails to the hospital) to track him down. Once the police got there, they searched his place only to find around US$ 10,000, notebooks, cell phones, card cloners, hard drives, pen drives, and other related devices.
