He earned it because he "stole" wins from other pitchers by coming in to relief with the game tied or behind. It was simple luck, as his team's offense did not depend on him. He managed the golden era of the Leones, leading a group spearheaded by the remembered Andr茅s "Bigcat" Galarraga, with whom he won the championship in the 1989-90 season. He would crown himself champion again, but with the Navegantes del Magallanes in 2001-02. I remember his slow and serious walk to the mound when he wanted to talk to his pitcher or simply relieve him. En el 5to. lugar del ranking conseguimos al hombre de los Filis Jes煤s Luzardo (por cierto, llamado como lanzador sustituto del roster en el juego de estrellas de la liga Nacional), seguido en el 7mo. puesto por el abridor de Boston Ranger Su谩rez.
