The beach is empty, that is, empty of humans. I am the only one there. The King Gulls (Chroicocephalus hartlaubii) are occupying the space where people normally play in the shallow water. I try to get close to them but they do not like my presence. I stay clear and watch their antics.
Some of them bathe, and some of them just sit there with their eyes closed. I am not sure what goes through their minds as I come closer. Some fly a bit further into the water. Their squawks en talking seem like a restless crowd in a coffee shop.
The wind is chilly but this does not affect them. We are the only creatures that respond negatively to cold weather, I think. Why is it that we choose the indoors when the wind picks up? Funny creatures we are.
So much confidence in his or her walk. The beauty of the every day, the beauty of nature. Does he/she look like a prim and proper type? Where is his/her business attire, because he/she fits the bill of a lawyer!
A quick scratch behind the ear!
And a quick bath over here with some majestic water droplets surrounding his/her body. A ballerina in water, dancing to the beat of the wind.
It is funny to keep an eye on them. They act like us, as if we are different! We are animals and animals are us. Us and them but we are one amongst many! It is in our hands how we view ourselves.
And when we see the "humanity" in them we will begin to recognize the "inhumanity" of our behavior as it is now.
Let us hope it will not be too late.
