Today’s prompt is:
running water
This is part Seventy Three of my current freewrite series - I’m calling it RatsNest for now - (posted daily Monday - Saturday).

"Oh for heaven's sake," the rat said. It leapt on to Faver's shoulder and it was enough of a shock for Faver to stop crying and stand up. The rat clung on to Faver's shirt.
"Get off me!"
"I will not! We have things to do. You need to pull yourself together, all this running water," the rat gestured to the streams of tears that had run down Faver's cheeks. "Is not helping anyone. There are more important things at stake!"
Faver grabbed hold of the rat and tried to remove him from his shoulder. The rat bit him and Faver let go. The rat jumped down and ran over to Faver's front door.
"Enough of this nonsense," he said. He pressed a small-clawed paw to the door and to Faver's amazement there was a click and the door swung open. "Get inside. Have a cup of tea, or whatever it is you need to get a grip and let's talk about the future."
Faver walked over to the door stepped into his house and slammed the door quickly before the rat could follow him inside.
"That won't work, you know," a voice said from behind him.
