The old man laughed and Faver turned his back on him. He fumbled with his phone. Why wouldn't it unlock his house? He tried realigning it.
"Something gone awry, old chap?" the old man said.
Faver glanced over his shoulder. The old man was still on the ground, but he was smiling up at Faver as though he was the happiest person in the world.
"They've taken everything from you," the old man said. "You're job, your Rating, and now your home. You are lost." With a grunt he pushed himself up onto his feet. "I can help you find your way home if you like." He gave Faver a little wave and turned away and began to totter down the road.
Faver glanced at the screen of his phone: Access DENIED it read. The old man was right. He had been stripped of his entire life. Without the correct Rating he would be refused access to everything.
He banged on the door. It was out of pure frustration. He knew there was no one inside to help him.

Check out the trailer for the book!
I have a story in it called The Still Blood-Soaked Path
A YouTube documentary film-maker visits a remote island to investigate the horrific murder of a young woman, and the subsequent suicide of her killer almost thirty years ago. But was the young lover really responsible for the brutal slaying of his girlfriend? And if not who was?

I had a comment left on one of my freewrites and I have to say, it made my day!
“Hey I got the book and want to tell you how much I enjoyed your story! Loved the twist at the end… you somehow nearly always manage to produce an unexpected twist... Love the care you take with your characters, intertwining them.” @owasco
If you want a taster of what is in the book, the video below shows me reading the first 900 words, or so, of my story, The Tell-Tale Dead
