I found a survey done by ING where they did a survey of 12813 people in Europe. And it really brought me back down to reality a little bit.
The early fear and the connection with illegality are almost gone but that does not mean that crypto is going to go mainstream any time soon.
“Unsurprisingly, many have heard of cryptocurrencies and know a little about what they are. But most
do not know how they work.”
And even though we who are in the cryptocurrency scene all know this subconsciously it is very easy to kind of forget it.
This is a very big ocean with only a very few fish, dolphins and whales.
Most people realise that these are digital currencies but have only a vague concept of what that really entails if you look at the question about the centralisation.
For me I assume that familiarity with the concept will bring a lot more acceptance. So every time it gets mentioned in mainstream media or in casual conversation brings the overall growth one small step closer.
A quarter of people (27%) say they are open to receiving cryptocurrency offerings from familiar bodies, agreeing banks should offer current accounts in crypto.
The more familiar people get with something the less they fear using it.
And as such the banks may have their role to play in the whole scene. We who are already down the rabbit hole are to far gone to realise how conservative most people are. How much they fear the unknown and the new. People have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the future but once they arrive there they do not want to go back to the old ways.
The holiday season is coming. As usual we who are into crypto will try to convince the rest to join us. Just observe the looks around you when you start on our favourite topic...
They will look at you like the weird uncle or aunt that is to be avoided and will try to change the topic as soon as possible.
I personally still love talking shop but have started only bringing it up when asked about it and whilst trying to rain in my enthusiasm and aiming to giving clear and unbiased answers on top. Especially now that the whole market has taken such a nose dive. For me it looks like a nice opportunity to average in but to most it just looks like a bloodbath they will not touch.
How do you handle being the weird uncle or aunt??
