So today, let me talk to you about "Why You Poop During Child Birth", because I鈥檓 very sure most women experienced it during delivery
Some women find pooping during birth normal and believe it鈥檚 just a natural process while others especially, the first time moms, find it quite embarrassing and uncomfortable
Pooping normally occurs in the latter part of the first stage or during the process of pushing (second stage)
馃尭 As the baby鈥檚 head descends through your pelvis, it gets to press on the colon and rectum and then the pressure forces almost all the contents (feaces) out.
For instance, if pressure is applied on a tube of toothpaste, the paste is forcefully squeezed out, that鈥檚 exactly what happens with the baby鈥檚 head on your rectum.
馃尭 The muscles involved in defecation are the same muscles involved in child birth.
During the active phase of first stage, you might have a strong urge to push prematurely, don鈥檛 be surprised if after examination your midwife tells you it鈥檚 just the head of your baby that is descending and that your cervix is not fully dilated yet.
Therefore "Pooping" during childbirth is a natural physiological process that is almost unavoidable as a mom.
You don't always have to be shy about that, that's why we(midwives) are here for you.
