It has been a quest of mine, for several years, to discover why, in our love relationships, we will sometimes feel and express the most anger. I finally found the foundational element involved and it is resentment. Resentment is one of the lesser emotions and I had not paid much attention to it until recently. Resentment is irritation with strong feelings attached to it. When resentment is experienced over a period of time (one week to one year, depending of the situation) it infects the spirit and makes the spirit toxic. The effect that can be produced is: whenever irritation is felt for the object of the resentment, all of the toxicity in the spirit flows into the mind and over-charges the thoughts with anger and rage. When this happens, feelings can become polluted, thoughts may turn poisonous and the relationship itself can become toxic. Toxic relationships build thoughts and reactions that numb the more exalted feelings and tend to produce habits that distance the partners from each other. There is only one method that I know of that can transform those feelings and it is complete forgiveness for the object of the resentment. Only in a state of sincere forgiveness can respect for the other be regained and the love to flow without the anger present. Forgiveness, as I am using the word here, does not give a pass and say that it was okay that those events and actions occurred. The purpose is to release personal feelings of resentment for those actions. Yep, might have to forgive them again in 5 minutes, but releasing emotional toxic waste will produce a new level of hopefulness and restore composure.
