Meet Sherlocka Holmes, twin sister of Sherlock Holmes. She is wearing a similar cape coat like Sherlock Holmes but she gave it her own feminine twist.

This is my biggest project so far on Steemit. It took me more than one week to make this custom made cape coat. I used the same fabric like Sherlock Holmes's cape coat. It is a mix of wool and cotton. Since it is a checked fabric I needed to make sure the lines would match together as much as possible.

Day 1

As usual I started with making patterns from scratch
First I measured myself and how long I wanted the cape coat to be. After that I started making the patterns.

After one hour I noticed a mistake. I was looking for the mistake for 30 minutes. Usually I will find my mistake within a few minutes. I found out that the mistake was in the book. There was one step missing in the book. So I had to improvise.

I decided to make a collar because I think the cape coat is too simple and too basic.

I changed a little bit the design because I like the collar to be lower and a bit bigger.

Day 2

Retraced the patterns on other piece of retracement paper
Added seams every where
Widen the cape coat both front and back
Adjusted the pelerine
Making the patterns for the lining of the cape coat

Day 3

I washed the fabric first and ironed it because it is from wool it can shrink when I would wash it later on. Then I cut all patterns on the checked fabric.

Day 4

I ironed facing fabric on to the 2 front fabric pieces, seams (lowest part of cape coat).

Day 5

This day I put the focus on the pockets and arm holes.

Making sure if the lines are matching. Wasn't easy. The left side is matching as you can see, the right one not so.

Day 6

On the sixth day I :

Ironed partly the back with facing and the seams of the pelerine
Stitched the pelerine on the front of the cape coat
Ironed the lower collar and stitched the lower and upper collar together
Attached the collar to the cape coat

Day 7

This day I cut the lining for the cape coat, stitched it together and attached it in to the cape coat. The armhole was very challenging.

Day 8

Closing the seams of the cape coat and sewed press buttons.

Day 9

Last day, I stitched the faux leather belt and made holes for the belt.

Result

It can always be better in my eyes, but over all I am very happy ;-).
