These days I am struggling to find time to sit at my desk and write a blog post here on Hive. It may be that I haven't taken any "fresh" photos or simply don't have enough to make up a half decent post. I feel compelled to throw in at least 7 to 10 images in a post rather than just the one. On some excursions, I may only come back with one image and I'll be pretty pleased with myself but for Hive, posting only one image in a blog post doesn't seem to work very well in terms of Hive rewards or engagement.
So with that in mind, I decided to try and make a weekly blog post with images I've shot in the previous week. The first "weekly" post is going to be monochrome, still my favourite photographic art form apart from lightpainting. I may not post every week religiously but if I have something to show or say, I'll post it.
So here goes:
North Lees Chapel Ruin in Hathersage
I had an unexpected clear sky last night after arriving at this ruined chapel. I shot a star trail sequence which looks great in colour but even scarier as a monochrome and moody single shot like this!
The sign posts say Holy Trinity Chapel but a quick search on the interweb says it's known as North Lees Chapel and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Apparently built by Roman Catholics in 1685 but was sacked by Protestants shortly after.
Compressing perspective in Staithes
I had a walkabout around Staithes in North Yorkshire, England earlier in the week and I took along a Sigma 28-70 lens. From high up above the town I used a longer focal length to compress the perspective on this menagerie of old buildings
The nearest I'll get to a still life photo
In Staithes on the way down to the harbour, there are quite a lot of "shabby chic" objects in front of the fisherman's cottages. I wouldn't like to try sitting on these chairs!!
Staithes Harbour at high tide
We inadvertently timed it right for high tide up river. This particular section of the harbour is a muddy mess at low tide and not much better at high tide either. This is one example where converting the image to black and white looks better than muddy brown water!
Another trip to the Lord Line building
I am absolutely fascinated by these stairs inside the core of the Lord Line building in Hull. Every time I visit, I curse not bringing a wider lens to fit the whole thing in the frame!
A state of dereliction
I'm not convinced that urban exploration is the healthiest pastime to undertake. Everywhere is covered in pigeon shit and I've probably inhaled something that is very bad for me!
Sunset from Boothferry Bridge
On the way back from our visit to Hull, we stopped off at this bridge over the River Ouse. It probably looks way better in colour but I do like the moodiness in monochrome.
A Tuesday night sat at my desk in the dark
The realisation that you need to get out more with a camera when you're sat at your desk on a Tuesday night in the dark, shooting a fibre optic brush with a radioactive Russian Helios 44 lens.....
