It was Kate's birthday on the 1st of October when I checked my calendar, the date was the 30th of September, we both live in different cities and she had been one of my best friends, she even accommodated me while we were still in school when I had no place to stay after I thought of all the good things she had done, I decided to get a cake and surprise her on her birthday, it was just a few hours to go, so I hurried to the bakery, I got the best cake, I went to the market also to get her a gift, by the time I would check the time, it was already 8 pm and her city was 3hours away from my city but I still decided to embark on it because I really wanted to surprise and let her know how much I love her.

I got to the park with the help of my sister because I took to extra bags that contain my cloth and some other things I will be needing, I planned to spend a week with her after her birthday celebration after I board the bus, it was very late already, it was remaining one seat for the bus to be complete and it was the one next to me, so we just had to wait, after 10minute of waiting, a young man walked up to our bus to get his ticket for the journey, he then entered our boy and sat beside me and the journey started at 09:50 pm.
It was pretty late already, I was just gonna mind my business till we got to our final destination but the guy said "HI" to me, I felt reluctant to answer at first but I did, and as the journey continued so did our conversation, I later go to know he was also going to the same city I was heading to, same area and street, at a point it felt like he was stalking me and I asked him but he laughs and said the same thing about me too.

Shortly after our talk, our driver tried overtaking a truck without knowing another was coming up ahead at full speed with dim light, he never knew it was a big truck, at that point, our bus was almost overtaking the truck in front of us before, also the other one was coming at full speed, we were on a narrow bridge, any diversion into any other director, it either we go down into a deep pit or we crash with the truck, I could feel my heart almost pop out of my mouth while holding his hand so tight, with help of the universe, we escape death, we both kept quiet for a while then started laughing again.
30min into the journey, we saw some people up front, from where our bus was, I could tell that they had put a lot of planks on the road to stop any moving vehicle, so our driver started reducing his speed as he got closer to them, I was looking and from where I sat, I could tell they weren't police, with the cloth wrapped around their head, we were approached with caution, without any warning, another car overtakes our bus with high-speed and asked us to drive fast that they aren't police but highway thieves. Our driver followed the car with speed also and as we pass through all the planks, my cake turned over but I didn't care too much because my life was at stake, while we pass through, the robbers were hitting all sort of stuff on our bus, after we pass them, just a few meters away from them, our bus started coughing, Or should I say started hiccups, everyone in the bus started panicking because we weren't far away from where the incident had just happened so those bad people won't attack us again, he bus started moving little by little and the time was already around 11:30 pm, he wanted to stop the bus and have a quick check but we refuse cause we know a police station was at the front, we manage the bus till we got to the police station that was when we discovered it was petrol problem.
This got a lot of people angry at the driver for putting their lives at stake for traveling with low gas in his bus, the police were nice enough to get us gas to continue our journey after we told them what happened.
We continued our journey and I got to my friend city at 12:23 am, with the help of my new made friend, he assists me with my bags while I carried the cake, I wave him bye without exchanging contact, I was so tired, so I rush to Kate house only to find her door lock, she had also traveled to her parents to celebrate her birthday. The End.
