"I like their carefree life! They don't have the tension of daily tests and any other classroom activity. "
"You are right! But they would panic at the end of the academic year when the annual exam shall be held. "
"Perhaps! But I think it would be better to study in the last month than stressing yourself throughout the year."
I said this to my friend as we were sitting on the ground and watching our classmates who were active players on the school team at the district level. They were used to having fun and playing games for the whole day on the ground. Their life was only concerned with the games and they had not any interest in studies. Our government school teachers were also lazy and never cared about such students.
At that time I also got inspired by the carefree life of such students. One day, I didn't prepare my test and my teacher scolded me badly. I took this to heart and decided to take part in games to avoid this tension. I asked the game instructor about it and she immediately agreed.
"So which game do you want to play for your school?" She asked me.
I was good at cricket, as I was used to playing this game at the weekends with my cousins, so after the little performance I got selected for the cricket. I was happy and that day, when I came back from school, I didn't prepare for any test. My mom asked me several times, but I opened my books just to pretend that I was studying.
I did this only for a few minutes and then went out to meet my friend who was living near us. I told her about my participation in the games and the motive behind it.
"You should have fun but study is also important for you. " She said to me.
"We shouldn't always burdened ourselves with our studies and should also have some other activities to keep our minds fresh.
Games are just fun along the studies. So don't worry my dear." I replied to her.
The next day, when I entered the school, I dropped my bag in the classroom and went straight to the ground to play games with the other girls who were already playing on the ground. We played games and had so much fun. That was the first day I spent freely in the school and no one even asked me about it.
During the recess time, our instructor summoned us to the staffroom and said,
"There will be a competition next month in our college, in which the teams from other schools are also participating. The winning team would get a chance to play at district level."
This was exciting news for all of us and we were enthusiastic about the match. We started our practice and were used to playing games throughout the day. One week passed and I was enjoying being freely in the company of my fellow students.
One day when I came back from school, I heard the gossip of my parents. They were extremely worried about the expenses of our house. My father was the only breadwinner of our family, so it was very difficult for him to manage everything. But still, he wanted me and my siblings to be a successful person in life.
"Although the time is not in our favor right now, I believe, that soon things will be changed. I believe that my children will become successful one day."
Hearing this I went straight into my room. His words echo in my ears again and again. I remembered my reckless behavior in my studies. That night I couldn't sleep well and said to myself,
"How could I betray my parents? I am their hope and I don't want to break that hope one day. From now I will completely focus on my studies and will make my father proud one day."
This was a life-changing moment for me and I realized that fun and games are part of life but we shouldn't let them affect our studies. The next day, I went to school and attended all my periods. When the girls came to ask me for the practice, I refused to go with them and said,
"I would come in the recess time."
I didn't withdraw from the game but never let it ruin my studies.
