This thing is a few years old, then I was in the duty of my medical department. I had to be very busy in the work of medical health, apart from this life was spent battling with patients, sick, and injured people. I had nothing to do with music far and wide. Yes, when I used to study in college, sometimes I used to stand on stage at annual functions and give some film songs etc. But apart from this, I never got any leisure or any interest in music.
But one day there was the arrival of some World Health Organization officials in our department, and a cultural program was also organized by our department to welcome them before dinner. At this event, the head of our health department also arranged a program of his choice. Our chief was very much interested in classical music, so he got a 30-minute program of a famous sitar player put in this ceremony.
Here it is very important to know that giving accompaniment to the program of sitar, harmonium, tabla, and flute is very popular. Therefore, in this program, these three instruments were to be played along with the sitar.
Tabla is a pair of twin hand drums from the Indian sub-continent that is similar in shape to bongos.
I had no interest in this type of music, even though I had to attend the ceremony to obey my chief's orders.
The ceremony began, first, the formal program continued, and then it was the turn of the music. I also started listening to it restlessly standing in a corner, as the rhythm of the sitar playing, the rhythm of the tabla, the melodious notes of the flute, the melodious music of the harmonium, the group music of Lahar started reverberating in the hall.
It seemed to me that the male and female audience present in the entire hall was mesmerized by the chants. I too got Goosebumps after listening to that music. And I kept listening to the music aloud until it was over. The whole hall was filled with applause, many people shouted together once again.
The magic of that music kept on me for several days, and then I also became interested in classical music.
From that day onwards, whenever I got an invitation to any concert, I tried to go there and used to enjoy the music wholeheartedly.
