Many religious people like Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, and Buddhists all live together in our country because our country is a secular country. Hindus celebrate Diwali, Holi and Makar Sankranti, and Muslims celebrate Eid. Baisakhi is a Sikh festival (based on the harvest of crops). Jains celebrate Mahavir Jayanti and Buddhists celebrate Buddha's birthday. Christmas and Good Friday are celebrated by Christians.
Apart from this, there are festivals in honour of saints, people's representatives and gurus, all these festivals are celebrated happily together by people of all communities in our country. Congratulations are given on each other's festivals and a harmonious atmosphere is created among themselves. According to the customs and traditions of our country, they are still performed today. One of these traditions was that in our country a drama based on the life of Lord Shri Ram is staged every year in every city of India in its own way in its own languages.
These plays are called Ram Lila. Most of the artists for their staging are men because these stagings are done in open places even in the villages at night. And all the spectators, men and women, watch these plays with great interest and happiness.
In our country, Shri Ram is worshipped as God, and some ancient writers have written their works about him, one of these books was written by Shri Tulsi Das Ji, this book is called the holy religious book Ramayana. In this book, all the characters, his brothers, his wife Sita, his father Shri Dasharatha, his mothers and his enemies Ravana and company and his friends Hanuman, Sugriva, Jamvant and all the events related to Lord Rama are mentioned in detail.
In this, the entire life history of Lord Rama from his birth to his sitting on the throne has been written. Based on this book Ramlila is staged continuously for 40 days to realize the events of his life and finally his enemy Ravana (the form of evil) is killed by Lord Rama ( The form of good) as a symbol of victory of good over evil.
After this staging Vijayadashami i.e. Dussehra is celebrated 10 days before Diwali, the important festival of our country, on this festival the effigy of Ravana (the symbol of evil) is burnt.
In my childhood, I also went to the staging of these Ramlilas on many evenings with my elder brothers or friends. On one of these evenings, a very interesting story was seen in Ramlila, that day the battle between Lord Rama and his enemy Ravana was to be shown on the stage, and this scene was being performed by two male actors on the stage.
Before staging, a curtain used to lie between the stage and the audience, and after the scene, the curtain was put up again. That day also the curtain was removed and the scene started, both the actors fought fiercely and their scene ended.
The stage staff had to bring down the curtain but they forgot. But the artists thought that the curtain must have fallen. That's why both of them came in their natural form and Ravana said to Lord Ram, now leave this fight friend, and give me a cigarette now I want to smoke, we both fought for a long time.
Since the curtain did not fall, the audience saw this conversation between God Sri Ram and his enemy Ravan as well and there was a fountain of laughter from the audience because such a scene was never shown before in the history of Ram Lila. The stage managers immediately realized their mistake and brought down the curtain.
I wrote all these things because in our old times we used to find opportunities to laugh even in our traditions, and at the same time had full faith and trust in our God.
