It was just two months ago that I took my first LSD trip and it was amazing.
Before doing this I read a book wrote by Hoffman about it and I documented myself about what to expect, what phases were and how one could react to it.
But I think the most important thing though is how you approach this kind of things: if you are doing it to learn something, have an experience, deepen the knowledge of yourself and your sorroundings, then I think it can be pretty safe, than anything else is related to you and only you can know if this can be a good or bad thing for you. Some may even decide to ask a doctor first, in fact I'm not advicing anyone to take it.
The first thing I experienced was dizziness, I started noticing my hands were getting a little shaky and I felt like I was just smoking a joint, nothing really special. It took about 40 minutes for the first effects to kick in. And consider that for at least half hour I let the paper sit under my tongue, so it was like a hour of waiting for the show to start.
To be honest, I wasn't expecting any fractal or strange form to appear in front of me, even if many of my friends told me I would've seen strange things and a distorted reality. None of this happened. The dose was not really high because I wanted to remain somewhat in control, and for the most part I did.
I took it in a beautiful garden with my girlfriend who was really caring and made me smile a lot (and so I did when she took it). And I focussed on this daisy for a while
So I started looking around me for things to observate in a different way and surely my eyes found colours to be more vivid and everything was mildly more interesting than normally (I'm a person that gets bored quickly of everything basically). But, as I said, there were no geometric strange things and no deformation of my view.
I experienced, as I said dizzyness at first, that quickly became something more discomforting: I began feeling cold and I was getting more shaky. Since I was with my loved one deep inside me I was mild and peaceful and I was sure everything would be ok, so no bad trip, but I had that bad physical sensation with me for the whole duration, like 6 hours or so. I was sweating because I covered myself with a sheet we brought with us to sit on the grass, it was a sunny day, but I just felt so cold. :D
What I did feel at one moment though was really strong.
You know everyone perceives reality a bit differently from other people and the perception you have of reality is different from what it really is, because our senses are limited. And what we observe is outside... now these are obvious things, but when I was "tripping" I experienced this knowledge with my senses. I was feeling a detachment from what I was observing, like my visual depth was augmented and I had a feeling for that, like touch. It was not that astonishing while I was experiencing it, but that was a sensation that remained with me for the weeks to come. Just a few days ago I realized I was getting used to that sensation and I realized that this is what people are talking about when they say "it open doors", as it just enhance your perception a bit or gives you different things you may have not noticed before or you were unable to experience until that.
This was truly an immersive and deep experience for me, and with all the precaution I took the first time I will repeat this experiment on myself and surely get back to this blog again for another little story. :)
