Family is the basic unit of ay society because each person is born to a family. Anything either positive or negative that affects a society can be traced down to families. Family either nuclear or extended shares love, oneness and many other great virtues/values together. Blood as said "is ticker than water" and that's why family ties is a strong tie.
I remembered while growing up back then, the festive season of December/January is always a memorable one even as my uncles and aunts do come around with their kids (who would have been on holiday) to celebrate with us. I always look forward to that time when I was much younger then. Not only that, during the long school vacation (of about 7 weeks) back then in my primary/secondary school, I do travel to my aunt's place which is the next town to where my parents are living and is always a memorable moment.
Many years ago especially before modern civilization, the extended & communial living was the order of the day which was as a result of cultural believe, occupation, religion & others especially in some part of Africa. However, there are alot of changes to that nowadays. However, as time passes by and because of some factors, things like these as also seen in some families started dwindling down due to factors like unfounded stories/lies, envy, insecurities, economic downturn, rivalries, nuclealised modern family settings of nowadays and so on. Personally, I believe strongly that no place as home and that love is at home at best than anywhere. Families with good family ties rather quickly "make it" in life rather than those who are disjointed even as life isn't meant to be lived all alone.
Indeed, I understand that some excesses, unresolved conflicts, personal biases and others has really affected some elsewhile strong families ties, but I believe that we can always forgive one another and move forward. I'm a strong advocate for family ties & bonds which I will also wants my kids to replicate. I know a sitting governor here in South West Nigeria whose family ties & strong bond greatly influenced his re-election as a governor. I think we need to go back to this. Together, wec can do more and achieve more far more than what each can do. If families can have good family ties and bonds, this will positively impact on the society and the nation at large. The more reason I don't believe in keeping enemies even though it's very possible to be hurted by close pals. I will encourage everyone to be that aunt or uncle that young ones will always love to be with and not the other way round. Life will be worthwhile when we have family in mind & maintain such mindset. In all, I prefer the extended family life and will always root for it even as I will encourage my kids to do same.
