ছেলে হারা শত মায়ের অশ্রু গড়ায়ে ফেব্রুয়ারি…
আমার সোনার দেশের রক্তে রাঙানো একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি…
অধিকাংশ বাংলাদেশি এই দিনটিকে চেনে 'আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস' হিসেবে। তবে এই দিনটির তাৎপর্য শুধু এই একটি বিষয়ে সীমাবদ্ধ নয়, এর সাথে জড়িত অজস্র বাংলাদেশির অকৃত্রিম দেশপ্রেম। দিনটি ইতিহাসে লেখা আছে অসংখ্য ভাষা শহীদের বুকের তাজা রক্ত দিয়ে। 21শে ফেব্রুয়ারী, আমাদের জাতীয় জীবনে অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটি দিন। ভাষার জন্য লড়াই করে জীবন দিয়েছে, এরোকম উদাহরণ সম্পূর্ণ বিশ্বে বিরল। শুধু বীর বাঙালিরাই বাংলা ভাষাকে রাষ্ট্রভাষা করার জন্য বুকের তাজা রক্ত দিয়েছে !
Most Bangladeshis know this day as ‘International Mother Language Day’. However, the importance of this day is not limited to this one issue, the genuine patriotism of countless Bangladeshis involved in it. The day is written in history with the fresh blood of countless language martyrs. February 21st is a very important day in our national life. Fighting for language has given life, such examples are rare in the whole world. Only the brave Bengali have given fresh blood to make Bangla the state language!
১৯৪৮ সালে, তৎকালীন পাকিস্তান সরকার যখন পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের ( বর্তমান বাংলাদেশ) বাঙালির মুখের বুলি - মাতৃভাষা বাংলাকে কেড়ে নেওয়ার নোংরা প্রচেষ্টা চালায়, তখন পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের বীর সন্তানেরা তার তীব্র প্রতিবাদ জানায়।শুরু হয় স্বাধীন বাংলা গড়ার পথ।
এরই ধারাবাহিকতায় যখন, ১৯৫২ সালে পুনরায় পাকিস্তান সরকার উর্দুকে পাকিস্তানের রাষ্ট্রভাষা করতে চাওয়ায়, বীর বাঙালি তখন মাঠে নেমে তার প্রতিবাদ জানায়। আর এই আন্দোলন চরম রূপ ধারণ করে ১৯৫২ সালের ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারী৷ বীর বাংলার সন্তানেরা তৎকালীন পাকিস্তান সরকারের দেওয়া ১৪৪ ধারা ভঙ্গ করে রাস্তায় নেমে পরে। আর পাক বাহিনী নিজেদের কাপুরুষতার সরূপ হিসেবে বাংলার নিরস্ত্র বীর সন্তানদের উপর নির্মমভাবে গুলি বর্ষণ করে। বরকত, সালাম, জব্বার সহ অসংখ্য বীর সেদিন ভাষার জন্য জীবন উৎসর্গ করে। তাদের তাজা রক্ত দিয়ে ভিজে যায় ঢাকার রাস্তা। রাজপথ সেদিন ভাষা শহীদের রক্তে রেঙ্গেছিল। কিন্তু সেই রক্ত দিয়ে যাত্রা শুরু হয়েছিল নতুন ইতিহাসের, নতুন দেশের নতুন মানচিত্রের। পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের বাঙালিরা নতুন দেশের স্বপ্ন দেখতে শুরু করেছিল।
In 1947, when the then government of Pakistan made a dirty attempt to take away the Bengali language, the mother tongue of the Bengalis of East Pakistan (present day Bangladesh), the heroic children of East Pakistan strongly protested against it. That's the path of building independent Bengal began.
Following this, again in 1952, when the Pakistani government wanted to make Urdu the state language of Pakistan, the Bangalis took to the field to protest. And this movement reached its climax on February 21, 1952. The younger generation took to the streets in violation of section 144 given by the then government of Pakistan. And the Pak army, as a manifestation of their cowardice, mercilessly fired at the unarmed heroic children of Bengal. Numerous heroes including Barkat, Salam, Jabbar sacrificed their lives for the language that day. The streets of Dhaka are soaked with their fresh blood. The highway was drenched in the blood of language martyrs that day. But with that blood the journey began to a new history, a new map of a new country. The Bengalis of East Pakistan started dreaming of a new country.
তারপর ১৯৫৩ সাল থেকে প্রতিবছর ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারিকে 'মহান শহীদ দিবস' হিসেবে পালন করা হয়। পরবর্তীতে ১৯৯৯ সালে ইউনেস্কো ২১ শে ফেব্রুয়ারিকে 'আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস' হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দেয়, কেননা বাংলাদেশিরাই প্রথম জাতি যারা ভাষার জন্য জীবন দিয়েছিল। এই ২১ শে ফেব্রুয়ারী দিনটি পরবর্তীতে স্বাধীন বাংলা গড়ে তোলার লক্ষ্যে হওয়া প্রতিটি আন্দোলন এবং মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধে বাংলার বীর সন্তানদের দিয়েছিল অনুপ্রেরণা ও সাহস।
Since then, every year since 1953, February 21 has been celebrated as' Great Martyr's Day. Later, in 1999, UNESCO recognized 21st February as the 'International Mother Language Day', as Bangladeshis were the first nation to give their lives for the language. This 21st of February gave inspiration and courage to the heroic children of Bengal aimed at building an independent Bengal and in the great war of liberation.
কিন্তু দূর্ভাগ্যজনক হলেও সত্যি যে বর্তমানে আমরা অনেকেই এই স্বীকৃতি ও তাৎপর্যের সঠিক মুল্য দিতে পারিনা। আমাদের অনেকেরই ধারণা এর মানে হল আমাদেরকে শুধুই বাংলায় কথা বলতে হবে। ব্যাপারটা মোটেই তেমন নয়। এই দিবসের উদ্দেশ্য হল বিশ্বের সকল ভাষার প্রসার ঘটানো। ভাষাগত বৈচিত্র্য উত্সাহিত করার পাশাপাশি বিশ্ব জুড়ে একাধিক ভাষা এবং সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্য সম্পর্কে পূর্ণাঙ্গ সচেতনতা সৃষ্টি। তেমনটা তখনই সম্ভব যখন প্রত্যেকের তার নিজের পছন্দমত যে কোন ভাষায় কথা বলার স্বাধীনতা থাকে।
But unfortunately, it is true that many of us today can’t pay the right price for this recognition and significance. Many of us think that this means we have to speak only Bengali. That isn’t the case at all. The purpose of this day is to spread all the languages of the world. Encouraging linguistic diversity as well as creating full awareness of multiple languages and cultural traditions around the world. That’s possible only when everyone has the freedom to speak in any language of his choice.
এই ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারিতে বীর ভাষা শহীদদের প্রতি আমি আমার অন্তরের অন্তস্তল থেকে জানাচ্ছি বিনম্র শ্রদ্ধা ও ভালোবাসা ❤️ আপনারা অমর হয়ে আছেন প্রতিটি বাংলা বর্ণমালার মাঝে, প্রতিটি ভাষাপ্রেমী মানুষের কথার মাঝে।❤️
From the bottom of my heart, I express my humble respect and love to the heroic language martyrs on this 21st of February. All are become immortal in the midst of every Bengali alphabet, in the words of every language-loving person.
