Crowder is an American social commentator and politicist, who's outspoken views regarding various social topics have divided audiences around the world. However, he was considered popular enough to garner almost 4 million subscribers to his channel. Now enter Carlos Maza who is a writer, host and producer on general interest website, Vox. They both managed to get into a spat resulting in Crowder "mockingly" hurling mediocre insults back at him, pertaining to Carlos's sexual bias.
Whereas some are saying that this could be construed as heated banter between two opposing parties, YouTube took the more hands-on approach of demonetizing his entire channel. They indicated Crowder's words are perceived, under their specific guidelines, as "hate speech". Now, my opinion on who was right or wrong, is of no real consequence here. But the bigger picture is where the real worry lies. Who is to decide what is considered "actual" hate speech or not. Mostly, this is a grey area where you will have two distinct interpretations of the same story, but if these powerful companies start dictating the rules under which censorship should fall under, we are treading a very dangerous path indeed.
