Let's start by looking at what leadership means;
Leadership is the ability of an individual or a group of people to influence and guide followers or members of an organization, society or team. Leadership often is an attribute tied to a person's title, seniority or ranking in a hierarchy. Link
Leadership is usually viewed as a special function for special people with certain skills but the truth is that we all need to be leaders in our various spheres. In our home, place of work, social gatherings, religious gatherings, we need to display the role of leadership.
As leaders, we are expected to live as examples to others, this will foster the crowd to follow in our footsteps but as the world stands today, nobody wants to lead.
A close mentor of mine will say the need for leadership arises when you are older than at least one person, then you are called to lead the others.
We usually view leaders as a contest, a struggle for power or so we think. But leadership is not in elections nor in the struggle but in displaying the essence of leadership.
So, when we talk about leadership Contest, our minds swift straight away to winning elections. But it is more than that.
Leadership is beyond winning elections but being the leader everyone thinks you are or wants you to be.
The truth is that leadership should not be a big deal to contest for but we need to support the right person to play the role of a leader.
