Just as the name implies, the carriage carries people from one place to another.
Even though the idea of carrying people from one place to another is still a common practice, the word carriage looks old because it is associated with the use of horses attached to a cart where the passengers sit. I don't know if there are countries that still make use of this practice, I think UK or Scotland should still use this system of transportation. I mentioned them because I know they still have some practices that are traditional and they make use of those practices. And it is a good thing, preserving the culture.
I have not used a carriage before but I have used a horse as a means of transportation. I have only seen the use of a carriage in movies and it looks cool, but it has always been portrayed like it is meant for only the rich class.
